Sharanda Manley, Precertification Coordinator in Hollis Cobb’s Patient Access Department, is celebrating the New Year with her recently earned CPAR (Certified Patient Account Representative) and CHAA (Certified Healthcare Access Associate) designations. She has been with Hollis Cobb for one year and is assigned to an Atlanta healthcare system to obtain precertifications and ensure authorizations transfer to our client for claims filing.
HELPING PATIENTS IN MULTIPLE AREAS
Just prior to her college graduation a year ago, Sharanda applied for her current position with Hollis Cobb, and has been a tremendous asset to both the company and the client she serves. She came to Hollis Cobb with case management experience from her college internship in which she assisted patients in obtaining authorizations for medications, equipment and procedures as well as helping to locate financial resources for patients struggling to meet their healthcare financial responsibilities.
While in college Sharanda garnered experience working as a registrar, surgical coordinator, reconsideration specialist and paralegal. Last year she earned her Associates of Science in Human Services as well as her CBCS (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist) designation.
Sharanda said she enjoys working with people, both patients, her assigned client and her co-workers. She finds helping others extremely rewarding. When not at the office, Sharanda enjoys spending time with her family with whom she is very close, and also volunteers at a soup kitchen at her church where she passes our meals and hygiene kits to needy people in her community.
ABOUT THE CERTIFICATIONS
The CPAR designation is a program of the Georgia Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). It is made up of an extensive study manual and a comprehensive exam. In addition to providing an in-depth study tool for students, the CPAR manual is used throughout the state of Georgia as a training and reference guide for hospital business offices. The manual covers the revenue cycle from start to finish, with additional focus on payer sources and government regulations. The CHAA designation is a certification earned through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM). Students working on this certification learn the principles of medical billing and insurance as well as the skills and knowledge required to provide outstanding service in all areas of the healthcare process. Obtaining the CHAA certification ensures that the student has achieved high level expertise in medical billing and regulatory guidelines associated with revenue cycle management and patient access.
