Mike Cowguill has joined the Hollis Cobb team as the newest Director of Operations. He is working in the area of bad debt collections, and currently is focused on the company’s near shore operations in Nicaragua. Passionate and enthusiastic about his work, Mike has 29 years of experience in the collections industry. “It’s all I’ve done my entire life,” he said noting that his skills at organization and leadership have enabled him to improve and fine-tune operational processes helping business owners successfully achieve goals for their clients.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike started in collections at a very young age. His work has taken him and his family around the country for career opportunities and advancement. The Cowguill’s moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia in 2006 where they raised their two daughters. Four years ago, Mike’s work took him to Greenville, South Carolina to manage collections for a law firm. Desiring to move back to Georgia to be closer to their daughters and two grandchildren, he began seeking opportunities in the area, and was recruited by Hollis Cobb.
Mike is a self-described history buff and enjoys studying military campaigns and strategies in his spare time. ”I’m a prolific collector of military/history oriented vintage board games and of PC simulations having to do with history and strategy,” he explained. “Re-creating and exploring the many facts and what-ifs in history is happiness to me,” he said. He and his wife of 27 years, Shannon, enjoy watching and collecting oldies movies from Hollywood’s golden era, as well as spending time with their daughters and grandchildren.
Throughout his career, Mike has worked as a general manager of several national collection firms and has run collection departments at law firms as well. An energetic self-starter, Mike is already building relationships and new strategies within the operations department at Hollis Cobb. He has specialized in medical collections and debt purchasing for the last three decades, and has a diverse career background that is serving Hollis Cobb’s clients well. The company leadership is excited to have Mike onboard, and look forward to the benefits his skills will bring to the entire team.
